Moyes reacts as West Ham confirm superb capture out of the blue

Hammers boss David Moyes has reacted after West Ham confirmed the superb capture of Mark Warburton in a move that came out of the blue.

West Ham were rocked recently when it was announced the vastly experienced Stuart Pearce was leaving the club.

The departure of Moyes’s assistant Pearce was something of a surprise.

Pearce told the club’s official website he decided “now is the right time to step away and pursue other opportunities and challenges”.

Well now West Ham have matched that level of surprise with the announcement of former Rangers, Brentford, Queens Park Rangers and Nottingham Forest manager Warburton as Pearce’s replacement (whufc.com).

It is a very impressive appointment from West Ham. Warburton has taken charge of nearly 350 matches, winning two promotions and a succession of individual awards, and will add vast experience and know-how to Moyes’ backroom staff.

Now Moyes has reacted as West Ham confirm the superb capture of Warburton that came out the blue on Friday evening.

“I’m really pleased to welcome Mark to West Ham United,” Moyes told whufc.com.

“He’s a really valuable addition to the backroom team, in the wake of Stuart Pearce leaving us at the end of last season.

“Mark is hugely experienced and has a fine track record, having managed at a number of Club’s over the course of his career.

“I’m excited about adding him to my coaching set-up as one of my assistants.”

New West Ham assistant Warburton led Brentford to the EFL Championship Play-Offs and Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title before most recently enjoying three productive seasons at Queens Park Rangers, culminating in a top-half Championship finish last term.

And the 59-year-old is relishing his new role with the Hammers.

“It’s a huge privilege to be joining West Ham United to work as part of David Moyes’ backroom staff,” Warburton said on whufc.com.

“West Ham have made incredible progress in recent seasons, continually making forward strides to move the Club in a positive direction.

“I am excited about coming in and adding my own experience and know-how to what is an incredibly strong coaching team here.”
