Said Benrahma has to get the nod to start for West Ham in the UEFA Europa League semi-final second-leg clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Hammers take on Frankfurt at Deutsche Bank Park tomorrow night needing to win by at least two goals in normal time in order to progress through to the final.

We could win by one goal of course and subsequently progress through either in extra-time or on penalties.

The main thing to note is that West Ham need to win the game, full stop. If we fail to do so, we will not be going to the final.

David Moyes is a notoriously defensive coach who places a lot of emphasis on keeping a clean sheet first and foremost. The Scot won’t have the luxury of being able to play for a draw tomorrow night in Frankfurt though. And if West Ham are to win, a change of personal from the first-leg may well be required…

The 26-year-old Hammers ace has been warming the bench mostly for the past month or so.

Signed from Brentford for £25 million in January 2021 (Goal), Benrahma hasn’t really lived up to expectations at the London Stadium.

The Algeria international just hasn’t been consistent enough although it could be argued that Moyes’s treatment of the winger certainly hasn’t helped him.

One thing that Benrahma cannot be accused of though is a lack of attacking intent.

When he came on against Frankfurt last week, he looked incredibly dangerous and showed far more creativity and flair than Manuel Lanzini did.

Lanzini has been great for the Hammers this season but it does seem like he has far more of an impact when he comes on as a second-half substitute. And we believe that Moyes should start Benrahma tomorrow in place of Lanzini.

Pablo Fornals could then drop into a central role alongside Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.

The best chance that West Ham have of beating Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Europa League semi-final second-leg is to take the game to the Germans.

And we don’t have anyone better than Benrahma at getting on the front foot and causing opposing defenders problems.

The Athletic recently described the Hammers ace as a ‘marvellously talented’ player.

Whether Moyes will be brave enough to start a so-called luxury player in a big European away game remains to be seen though.
