Merson makes big Scamacca claim and says pressure is key against Saints

Paul Merson has made a big Gianluca Scamacca claim and says pressure is a key factor in the West Ham clash against Saints.

West Ham head to Southampton on Sunday looking to make it five wins in a row and three on the bounce in the Premier League.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have lost five of their last six Premier League matches and sit one place and one point above the bottom three a quarter of the way through the season.

Southampton will be without key players Moussa Djenepo and Romeo Lavia while their manager’s job appears to be on the line according to reports.

There has been a massive turnaround in West Ham’s season since the international break after a dismal start which had seen David Moyes under pressure for the first time since his return to east London in 2020.

But it is pressure on his rival Hasenhuttl which Merson believes will be a big advantage to the Hammers.

The pundit has told Sportskeeda he is a big fan of what he is seeing from one particular player as he predicts a 2-1 win for Moyes’ boys.

Merson believes Scamacca is not only a quality signing by Moyes but one that will also get even more out of Michail Antonio, who is back from illness for the game at St Mary’s.

Paul Merson makes big a Gianluca Scamacca claim and says pressure is key factor in the West Ham clash against Saints.

“This is a big match for Southampton – the home fans will want a win,” Merson told Sportskeeda.

“I like the manager, but you’re going to hear a lot of things coming out about his job now. Southampton are a bit stuck at the moment.

“Gianluca Scamacca looks like a good signing for West Ham. They took a big call to keep Michail Antonio out, but he came on and scored his goal as well. He has been struggling a little bit, but he can come on against tiring defenders and do major damage.”
