A massive £67m West Ham claim is surely too good to be true amid speculation over interest in Lucas Paqueta.

West Ham desperately need an influx of quality players and fast.

David Moyes’ squad for the opening day defeat to Man City made that abundantly clear to anyone doubting that fact.

And that was before West Ham elected to sell Issa Diop to Fulham and loan out Nikola Vlasic to Torino in the last 24 hours.

Indeed there is even talk Said Benrahma could follow them out of the Hammers exit door.

Now the pressure really is on for West Ham to make some serious statement signings.

Links to various players in a host of positions have been doing the rounds.

But a massive £67m West Ham claim is surely too good to be true amid Lucas Paqueta speculation.

West Ham fans will be aware of the brilliant Brazilian playmaker from the clash with Lyon in last season’s Europa League.

The Hammers have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old former AC Milan and Flamengo star (CBS journalist Ben Jacobs).

So too have mega rich Newcastle and PSG.

They are two clubs for whom big transfer fees will not be a problem when push comes to shove.

West Ham’s record signing remains £45m Sebastien Haller.

Arsenal have also been strongly linked with the Brazil international this summer with various reports suggesting he could be available for around £67m.

And there have been ludicrous suggestions that the Hammers are willing to break their transfer record by some £22m to sign Paqueta.

The likes of TEAMtalk, ICFootballNews and CaughtOffside have all made the big £67m West Ham claim.

And no doubt any Hammers fan with even the most shallow knowledge of the club, will have laughed out loud on reading the reports.

There is more chance of a football club building a giant barrier between the home and away fans in their stadium. Oh wait a minute…

I mean come on there have been some utterly ridiculous transfer rumours over the years and this summer.

But West Ham bidding £67m for Paqueta, do us a favour.

Media Foot have previously reported Lyon could sell Paqueta for around €40 million (£34m).

That is a more believable and realistic figure when it comes to West Ham.

Rumours of club record bids and shelling out £67m can probably be safely consigned to the bin.
