Manchester United have made a loan move to sign Al-Nassr striker Vincent Aboubakar, according to Saudi Arabian outlet OKAZ.

The Red Devils are currently eyeing a new striker after parting ways with Cristiano Ronaldo by mutual agreement in November.

A number of high-profile names have been linked including Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix but OKAZ claim that United are on the verge of landing Aboubakar on a short-term loan deal.

Al-Nassr currently have their foreign quota full with eight players and they are prepared to part ways with Aboubakar temporarily in order to register Ronaldo for the current campaign.

The Cameroon star has loan proposals from United and Fenerbahce but it is reported that he will choose the Red Devils because of the ‘strength of the offer’ and ‘their desire to attract him’.

Aboubakar would be a decent stopgap signing

Aboubakar has vast experience in European football with the likes of Porto and Besiktas where he scored 93 goals. He is no longer in his prime, but would be a handy signing for United.

The 30-year-old has a strong physical presence and can hold-up play with good effect.

He showed his qualities at the World Cup where he bagged a goal and an assist coming off the bench against Serbia before scoring a dramatic late winner against Brazil in the group stage.

In our view, manager Erik ten Hag could utilise him as a substitute during the second half of the season. Aboubakar would offer something different as he is strongly built and likes to dribble.

The Cameroonian would be a decent stopgap signing for the Red Devils until the summer when the hierarchy could be prepared to back Ten Hag with a big budget for a marquee striker.
