Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in signing Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

David de Gea has been United’s number one for the past 12 years and there are genuine questions over his position after his blunders against Sevilla and West Ham United.

The Spaniard has reportedly agreed terms over a fresh contract beyond the summer but doubts remain whether he will continue as the first-choice goalkeeper next term.

Amidst this, Di Marzio has told Sky Sports that United are interested in signing Onana, who previously worked under manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax.

The reputed journalist added that the Nerazzurri are prepared to part ways with him for €50 million.

Apart from United, Chelsea are also in the mix to land the former Cameroon international this summer.

Onana would be a perfect keeper for Man Utd

Onana was hugely successful during his time in Amsterdam under Ten Hag. The 27-year-old has carried over his good form with Inter in his debut season.

The 27-year-old signed for the Nerazzurri on a free transfer last summer and he has kept clean sheets in 17 of his 36 appearances across all competitions.

Onana is obviously gifted with superb reflexes but he is also comfortable with the ball at his feet and likes to operate as a sweeper-keeper when required.

He has completed 79 per cent of his passes in the league this season compared to De Gea’s 68 per cent.

Meanwhile, the ex-Barcelona graduate likes to make regular high claims in the box and this is not something that De Gea is most comfortable with.

In our opinion, Onana would be a clear upgrade on De Gea and would perfectly suit Ten Hag’s playing style, considering he is already accustomed to it.

Chelsea are also interested in signing him but United should have the upper hand with Champions League qualification still on the cards for them.

The opportunity to reunite with Ten Hag could be hard to turn down for Onana so long as he is guaranteed a starting position ahead of De Gea.
