Man United are now going to consider any offers made for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Over the last few days, there have been whispers about Cristiano Ronaldo unhappiness at Manchester United. Apparently, he wants to leave the club this summer.

Timing-wise, this couldn’t be any worse for the Old Trafford club. Pre-season tour starts tomorrow and there has been no signs of United’s number seven.

Now, Sky Sports News have given us their latest information. Apparently, United are ‘willing to listen to offers’ for the key star this summer. That’s their private stance.

Publicly, it’s a different matter. United are officially stating that Ronaldo is not for sale.

Apparently, the final decision on Ronaldo’s future will ultimately lie with the player, while over the last few weeks, Jorge Mendes has been selling the ‘Cristiano effect’ to potential buying clubs.

As things stand, Chelsea have listened to the pitch and are considering a move, while Bayern Munich, Napoli and FC Barcelona have also been in talks with Mendes.

Ronaldo was due to rejoin his teammates in training on Monday, though he’s been unavailable, citing family reasons (which the club have accepted).

Again, this just speaks to how far United have fallen over the last few years. We can hardly be mad at Ronaldo for wanting to leave.

What does upset me is the timing of it all. Ronaldo knew the situation a month ago. Why decide now that he wants to leave? When other potential transfer targets have already moved on…

It’s just a messy situation and I don’t know whether it’d be wise to keep an unhappy player on the books, particularly as Erik ten Hag is trying to undertake a complete rebuild from the ground up.

Maybe it’s best if Ronaldo is sold, though I’d be seriously concerned about where we’ll get our goals from in 2022/23 without him.
