Man United firmly believed they’d done enough to sign Jude Bellingham in 2020.

Old Trafford and Manchester United has always given young players a platform to showcase their talents. It’s what the Red Devils have always done well throughout the course of history.

From the Class of 92, to the Busby Babes, with plenty more sprinkled in, this club is built upon the foundations of nurturing and harnessing the ability of the next generation.

The club have often been at the front of the queue when it comes to signing these world-class talents from every corner of the globe. One man they pushed super hard to acquire in 2020 was Jude Bellingham.

At the time, we didn’t really know how special this young midfielder could be. Well, a couple of years later, the world knows how talented Bellingham is.

We’ve since learned that United well and truly rolled out the red carpet in an effort to bring Bellingham in. Sadly, that pursuit came up short, with Borussia Dortmund coming out on top.

Now, we’ve learnt, courtesy of Bryan Robson, that United were convinced they’d done enough to sign Bellingham.

Check out what Bryan Robson had to say on Man United thinking they had done enough to sign Jude Bellingham:

“Unfortunately for us he decided to move to Germany. We thought we more or less had him.” Robson told The Sun.

“Myself, Sir Alex and Eric Cantona all met him with his mum and dad at Carrington and after that meeting we thought he was coming to us.

“Now there is talk about him moving next summer and you see Liverpool mentioned a lot.

“We thought we had him and he would have been a great signing for us. But he definitely has it in him to become a great player for England.”

We all laughed when Birmingham City retired his shirt number as a young teenager. Well, they’re no doubt laughing now! They absolutely understood just how good this guy was, even at such a tender age.

While it’s sad that United didn’t land Bellingham in 2020, there’s a very good chance that the club could bring him in at some point in the not-too-distant future.

The rumours suggest that Bellingham could well be on the move next summer, with United no doubt firmly interested. Obviously, he’d cost a fair bit more than he would’ve done a couple of years ago, but the Red Devils can absolutely afford to sign the Englishman.

It’s still absolutely crazy to think that this kid is just nineteen years old.
