Man United ‘very keen’ on signing Manuel Akanji this summer: report – Old Trafford Faithful

Man United are looking at making a move for Borussia Dortmund defender, Manuel Akanji.

It’s now fair to say that Manchester United have a genuine problem at the centre-back position. Harry Maguire, despite his best efforts, continues to make rookie mistakes. Simply put, we should be expecting better from the captain of this club.

No doubt Ralf Rangnick and the United board are looking at making improvements in that position when the summer rolls around. No doubt a large number of players will be linked.

Over the last 24 hours, a new name has been thrown into the mix; Manuel Akanji, who currently plies his trade for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

It’s Sport1’s Patrick Berger with the scoop. He states that United are ‘very keen’ on signing the 26-year-old this summer – who has rejected Dortmund’s latest contract offer.

Apparently, the price tag is set at just over £25million (€30m), while a reunion with Akanji’s good friend, Jadon Sancho, could well be on the cards.

Check out Patrick Berger’s tweet here:

Akanji has been a regular for Dortmund ever since arriving in 2017, while no doubt he’s seen the German club sign Niklas Sule, who also plays in his position and is beginning to question his future.

Old Trafford could be the ideal destination. He has a close friend here, will definitely earn more money in terms of a weekly wage and will be playing at an elite level for one of the biggest clubs on the planet.

For United, the fee is extremely friendly. Particularly as Akanji still has room to develop and grow as a footballer. The Switzerland international may well be an astute addition, but you can bet your bottom dollar that there are other clubs out there who’ll be looking at Akanji as a potential signing.
