Man United are set to rival fellow Premier League sides for the signature of Youssoufa Moukoko.
Manchester United always place an emphasis on youth. It’s what got the Red Devils to where they are today. Losing Cristiano Ronaldo has led to there being a void within the first-team squad. It’s a gap that has to be replaced sooner or later.
Money is tight, hence why the club may well move for either A) A veteran player on a loan or short-term deal or B) A youngster who can come in with a smaller transfer fee.
The latest report from The Times, via the BBC Gossip Column, seems to think United are trying to move forward with option B.
Apparently, the man on their transfer list is Borussia Dortmund’s young striker, Youssoufa Moukoko.
Their report claims that United are set to rival a pair of Premier League clubs, in the form of Chelsea and Liverpool, for the signature of the talented 18-year-old – though a deal will not be easy.
The player needs convincing by the eventual winner of his signature that he’s not being brought in to sit on the bench.
I’d argue that if that’s what the German forward wants, United is the best option out of the three right now, due to the fact they’re very thin on the ground in the final third. That said, he’d likely have to beat out competition from Anthony Martial, who is looking to find some form after overcoming early-season injury issues.
Moukoko, another player from the now-famous Dortmund academy, is playing a bit-part role for the Bundesliga side this season. He has scored six goals in 22 appearances across all competitions, but the first-team exposure is doing him the world of good as he continues to develop as a player.
