A new midfielder is probably a necessity this summer for Erik ten Hag and Manchester United. The likes of Scott McTominay, Fred and even Marcel Sabitzer are good on their day. However, inconsistencies within their game has happened far too often.

Ten Hag is a perfectionist. He needs his rotation players to come in and do just as well as his starters. Hence, a midfielder may well be brought in.

Gabri Veiga, who plies his trade for Celta Vigo, has already been linked with a United move this summer. The young man is back in the headlines again.

You get the impression the Reds aren’t leading the way right now, though, with both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid also keen on the young man.

Factor in interest from Manchester City and Liverpool, and that’s all you need to know about this young man’s immense talent and ability.

Veiga has managed nine goals and four assists across all competitions this season, with several of Europe’s big boys starting to take note of these impressive performances.

Veiga has a current release clause of around €40m (£35m), which for a player of his calibre is an absolute steal. No doubt Celta Vigo are trying to improve his contract ahead of this summer, though if that doesn’t happen, there’s a very good chance at least one team will meet that clause.

Veiga would allow United to get younger in the middle of the park, while he also represents a significantly cheaper alternative than Jude Bellingham.
