Man United could walk away from any deal to sign Mason Mount if their latest bid is not accepted.

Mason Mount has undoubtedly been the name most heavily linked with a Manchester United transfer this summer. The Englishman, who is out of contract next year, is looking to leave Chelsea this summer.

The Stamford Bridge club have already turned down two offers from United. The latest totalling at around £50m.

However, under Erik ten Hag, United are now longer looking like a club who are willing to be taken for fools. They’ll have their maximum offer in mind, with the club unwilling to go above that fee. In the past, they wouldn’t have stuck to their guns.

The BBC’s Simon Stone has provided the latest on Mount’s future. It’s stated that the Reds will make a bid of around £55m for Mount. However, the club are ‘set to walk away’ from any deal if this bid is not accepted.

Understandably, with a year left on his deal, United do not believe Chelsea’s £70m valuation of Mount is realistic.

First and foremost, it’s worth noting that Mount is an incredible player. He’s actually become underrated after a poor 2022/23 season. However, he will absolutely bounce back.

The fit for Mount under Ten Hag feels perfect. He’s a hard worker on both sides of the ball, excellent in possession and positionally superb. With Mount in the team, United’s midfield will have that extra energy, meaning more time on the ball for the Red Devils – something which they need if they’re to challenge Manchester City on an annual basis.

£55m feels fair. If Chelsea reject, then that’s up to them. However, they’d then lose Mount for nothing in twelve months time.
