Man United are looking to begin negotiations with Diogo Dalot about a new contract.

Since Ralf Rangnick took charge, the German has undertaken a minor overhaul of the starting line-up. Once undroppables under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have been switched out in favour of others.

Perhaps the best example of that is the full-back position. We’ve seen more regular minutes given to the likes of Diogo Dalot and Alex Telles – and I have to admit, it has been refreshing. The point is that change is sometimes good.

For Dalot, in particular, the last few months have been pretty special. It’s easy to forget he spent last term on loan with AC Milan. I honestly thought his Old Trafford career was finished.

Well now, it’s being claimed by TEAM Talk that United are now set to open contract talks with the 22-year-old, whose current deal is winding down with eighteen months left on it. Come this summer, he’ll be into the final year of his terms.

It can now be argued that Dalot is United’s first-choice right-back over Aaron Wan-Bissaka, while, understandably, United are ready to offer him a new contract.

On top of that, Dalot is ready to listen to those terms, as he would be happy to sign a new long-term contract at the Theatre of Dreams. However, TEAM Talk are told that he’d only commit his future to the club if he’s playing regularly.

I do like the fact that Dalot has this never say die attitude, so I find it tough to doubt him. I still believe he’s still got some improving to do if he’s to become a regular starter in a title-winning side.

Would it be sensible to hand a new contract to Diogo Dalot? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
