Man United have eyes on Reims striker, Hugo Ekitike.

Old Trafford has often played host to some of the best players in the world. That statement still rings true today despite our woes in 2021/22.

That said, a major overhaul will commence this coming summer transfer window. Many players will be sold. Others will have to be brought in to replace them.

More than anything, United need to get younger. This squad is ageing in several key areas, including the striker position. Today, a new name has been thrown into the ring as a potential forward target; Hugo Ekitike.

Now, according to Goal, United have been named as one of the sides interested in the talented 19-year-old. The competition to sign Ekitike will be stiff mind, as Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United are also credited with interest.

What makes this brewing transfer rumour particularly intriguing is the fact that Reims president, Jean-Pierre Caillot, expects the young forward to leave his current club this summer.

During this breakthrough season, the France U20 international has scored nine goals in 21 matches, which is a pretty decent return for a player who is still learning and developing all the time.

Even if Cristiano Ronaldo stays despite a lack of Champions League football being on offer, Edinson Cavani will leave. At this point, who knows what’s happening with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial? We need reinforcements in this key area.

Is Ekitike the answer? I’m not really sure because he’s untried and untested in Premier League football and it will take him some time to adapt.

I don’t doubt his talent, but personally I’d like to see us promote from within. The likes of Joe Hugill and Charlie McNeil are equally as talented as Ekitike, while they also know their way around Old Trafford already.

Would a Man United move for Hugo Etikete make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
