Man United are in a race to sign Luis Diaz from FC Porto.
It was always going to be a weird January transfer window for Manchester United. After all, Ralf Rangnick is only in charge on an interim basis. The Old Trafford club were never really going to give the German massive money to spend, given a new man may well be in control come the summer…
Names have constantly been linked. I guess that’s part and parcel that comes with being the biggest club in the country.
One man who was on United’s radar is FC Porto winger, Luis Diaz. The attacker is showing some fine form over in Portugal of late.
Now, according to ESPN, United are one of the sides locked in a battle to sign the 25-year-old, along with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s Liverpool who are now the frontrunners to acquire the Colombian star, as they’ve abandoned plans of waiting until the summer and are ready to make their move now.
The Portuguese club are now willing to sell the player before Monday’s transfer deadline, in a deal worth £37m, plus an additional £12.5m in performance-related add-ons and bonuses.
Liverpool were made aware of interest from rivals and have decided to make their move now – though there’s a chance the deal may not be completed in time due to complications.
Once again, this feels like another case of a club getting a headstart on United, who have been typically-slow movers in the transfer market over the last few years.
You get the impression that the Reds are now waiting on a January slip-up from Liverpool, before hoping they can fend off competition from Jurgen Klopp’s side in the summer.
