Man United keen on signing Chelsea’s Mason Mount – Old Trafford Faithful

Man United are said to be keen on signing Mason Mount, though they’d face heavy competition.

Manchester United Football Club are still in the middle of a major squad overhaul. Erik ten Hag needs time to fully turn the dressing room into one that fits his style of play.

This summer is arguably the biggest in United’s history over the last decade. Make no mistake about it, the Reds have a real chance to bridge the gap to the likes of Manchester City.

Several names have already been linked with an Old Trafford move this summer – including Chelsea’s Mason Mount.

This felt like an inevitable rumour due to Mount’s contract situation at Chelsea. However, Goal have provided more information on the future of the English attacking midfielder.

They say that United are amongst the sides believed to be keen on signing the 24-year-old attacking midfielder with a winding down contract.

Arsenal, who appear to be the frontrunners, are leading the way. Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester City are also showing interest.

It’s expected that Chelsea will likely cash in on Mount this summer, as in 2024, he’d be able to leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer.

For squad depth purposes, this feels like an astute piece of business. Mount has proven he can play at a high level in the right system. He just needs the backing of a manager and that regular playing time.

The problem? I’m not sure he’d be a week-in-week-out name in the line-up here at Old Trafford. He’s just not as good as Bruno Fernandes and if Mount isn’t willing to dip in and out of the team when needed, I just don’t see him choosing Salford Quays as his next destination.
