Man United are trying to convince Borussia Monchengladbach to sell them Yann Sommer on the cheap this month.
Somewhat expectedly, Newcastle United made the decision to recall Martin Dubravka back from his loan at Manchester United. The experienced goalkeeper had barely played for Erik ten Hag, so this felt somewhat inevitable.
With Dean Henderson’s future a the club far from guaranteed, coupled with rumours swirling about David de Gea’s long-term position as United’s number one, it makes sense to see the Red Devils linked with a move to bring in someone else.
Not too long ago, we covered a few links to Borussia Monchengladbach’s veteran shot-stopper, Yann Sommer.
Now, the 34-year-old finds himself back in the headlines again, in regards to a potential switch to the Theatre of Dreams.
Apparently, as a result of Dubravka heading back to Newcastle, United are pushing hard to bring Sommer in this month. It’s TalkSPORT with the claim.
They state that United were already working on a summer deal to sign Sommer, though the Red Devils are now ‘hoping to persuade’ the Bundesliga outfit to allow Sommer to leave for a ‘knockdown fee’ this month.
Sommer is available for nothing in the summer, though it seems like United would prefer to pay a small transfer fee in order to bring in the Switzerland international early.
The question remains, will Monchengladbach sell at this point? I seriously have doubts. He’s still their first-choice goalkeeper, so why would they let him leave when they need him?
For United, I’d be surprised if they manage to bring in another goalkeeper at this point. You’re just praying that De Gea can stay injury free for the remainder of the campaign. If he does get hurt, then Tom Heaton is a decent back-up to have.
