Man United do not expect to see Antonio Rudiger make the move to Old Trafford this summer.

There’s no doubt that Manchester United are preparing for a summer of heavy spending. Simply put, it absolutely has to happen if we’re serious about competing with the best teams in the world.

Erik ten Hag is presumed to be the man in charge, though even without that being confirmed, United are putting the feelers out there in regards to potential additions.

One man the Old Trafford club have earmarked as a potential option is Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger.

The German is out of contract this summer, with the Reds linked with a move to bring him in on more than one occasion.

However, United have been dealt a blow in that regard, if the latest report from the Manchester Evening News turns out to be true.

Apparently, United have ‘little expectation’ that the 29-year-old Premier League star will join the club this summer.

Sources close to Rudiger suggest the player is more focused on discussing deals with clubs who are guaranteed to be playing in the Champions League next season. Ouch, that burn…

It’s fair enough, though. Rudiger is a player who has performed great in massive finals year-in-year-out. Why would he take a step back and take the risk to move to Old Trafford?

Unfortunately, that’s just where we’re at as a club right now.

There’s no doubt we need to be bringing in yet another centre-back, though. Raphael Varane has been good when available, though injuries are becoming a problem. As for Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire, well, they’re still struggling.

I’d also suggest our full-backs are a major problem as well. They’re just not good enough and that’s another area United should probably look to strengthen over the summer.

For now, we’ll just have to get used to players turning us down in favour of moves elsewhere.

Would a Man United move for Antonio Rudiger make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
