Man United fans have taken to Twitter to react to the performance of Donny van de Beek vs Aston Villa.
Well, Manchester United’s 100% winning record is now gone, thanks to an injury-time equaliser conceded against Aston Villa.
The match itself was a game of two halves. The Red Devils dominated the opening 45 minutes, though to their credit, Villa improved in the second half and were absolutely the better side, albeit in tough conditions.
Erik ten Hag gave Donny van de Beek the opportunity to start his first game this summer, with supporters keen to get a look at the Dutch midfielder in action.
Sadly, we were all left pretty disappointed once again. I was fully expecting to see some improved displays from Van de Beek under Ten Hag, but so far, he’s just underwhelmed in every aspect.
What’s most frustrating from a personal view is Van de Beek sort of shies away from the action. Perhaps it’s a confidence issue right now, though he’s just not brave enough to play a part at the highest level.
I can also give him some leeway as he begins to adjust to a new system, though I feel like he just doesn’t want it badly enough at the moment. It’s the safe passing, the stagnant positioning and the lack of intensity. All those aspects are the perfect recipe for disaster.
Again, time is on Van de Beek’s side as United are pretty light in midfield. He will get the opportunity to play games on a regular basis. Though I would like to see a little more desire from him.
