Man United could make a move to sign a striker in the January transfer window after Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit.

Cristiano Ronaldo got his wish. He’s departed from Manchester United after launching a scathing attack on the club which would have alienated the dressing room. It was a sad end to an unbelievable player’s time here at Old Trafford. It didn’t have to end this way.

Well, the club are already looking to move on. They’re saving £17m as a result of letting Ronaldo go, which is a hefty sum of money all things considered.

Originally, the plan was to wait until the summer to bring in a new striker to fill Ronaldo’s shoes. Well, the situation has changed, so has the strategy.

It’s Fabrizio Romano with the news. He took to Twitter to explain that United are now ‘already exploring’ the January market to sign a player in the key striker position to replace Ronaldo. Given the fact the club were already light in that area of the field, this absolutely makes sense.

Check out Fabrizio Romano’s information on United moving for a striker in the January transfer window:

It’s notoriously tough to buy in January. That will not change here. Clubs rarely want to part with their prized assets, so finding a top-tier forward is nigh-on impossible.

I would imagine the club would likely have to bring in someone temporarily, on a shorter-term contract, viewed as a stop-gap ahead of bringing in a permanent replacement over the summer.

Who that player is, remains to be seen, though I would expect the deal to be similar to how United brought in Odion Ighalo under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. That may be underwhelming to the majority, but that’s the situation the club are in right now.
