Man United could get embroiled in a bidding war to sign Denzel Dumfries.
Manchester United Football Club are playing well of late. Erik ten Hag’s side suddenly have this resiliency about them, with the attitude in and around the dressing room now looking far better.
It’s made even more impressive due to the fact that Ten Hag has only had one transfer window to mould this squad into one that fits his image. With the January transfer window now here, the rumours are swirling again.
Enter, Denzel Dumfries.
It’s Italian football reporter Marco Barzaghi with the latest. He shared information via his YouTube channel, with the Daily Express picking up on the report.
He says that United could be embroiled in a bidding war to sign the 26-year-old, while the deal could cost up to £53m.
As things stand, Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur could have the edge, with the North London side prepared to offer Emerson Royal as part of the deal. He’d be a direct replacement for Dumfries, leaving Inter with no need to look elsewhere to sign a new right-back.
Chelsea and Bayern Munich are also credited with an interest.
From a United standpoint, you’d expect that Aaron Wan-Bissaka would have to be sold first, in order to raise some funds to bring in someone as expensive as Dumfries.
The Englishman has actually been pretty impressive over the last couple of weeks, to his credit. That said, I don’t believe he’s going to feature heavily under Ten Hag on a regular basis.
The first port of call for United should be extending Diogo Dalot’s contract. He was immense before the World Cup, so it makes sense to keep that momentum going as soon as the Portugal international is ready to make his return.
