Man United are considering making a move to sign Antoine Griezmann.
Manchester United have one gaping hole within their squad as Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer here.
The Portugal international, albeit not even close to his brilliant best come the end of his time at Old Trafford, leaves a void within the United dressing room. Ideally, that gap will be filled this January – though that’s easier said than done.
Several names have been linked, including the likes of Cody Gakpo and Joao Felix.
Today, though, a new name is thrown into the mix; Antoine Griezmann.
They say that United are considering making their move to sign the top-class 31-year-old, who has previously won a World Cup with France. Don’t forget he’s also in tomorrow’s final.
Griezmann looks back to his best for his country right now, having a quietly effective World Cup over in Qatar – often being France’s main playmaker and chance creator. He was superb against England throughout.
The Atletico Madrid man has had a mixed time of it at club level over the last few years. It seemed to stem from when he made the very public decision to leave Atletico and head to FC Barcelona.
Perhaps what Griezmann needs is a genuine change of scenery to a different country. United could offer him that. As a short-term option, Griezmann has serious potential. He can play as the main striker, sit in that #10 role or even be deployed off the wing. That versatility is no doubt his biggest selling point.
I guess the only question is to whether Griezmann fancies a move to Old Trafford…
