Man United are ready to let both Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay leave this summer.

Erik ten Hag is slowly shaping his squad into one that fits this specific style of play. Though as we’re all well aware, these things take time.

It’s going to take multiple years until this squad is one that the Manchester United gaffer is truly happy with, though you get the feeling the club is at that stage where they have to sell before they can buy.

Ten Hag has now had the better part of six months working with this squad. He’ll now have some understanding of the players that fit into this regime – and those that don’t.

Well, two names whose head could be on the chopping block is Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay. Both of whom have struggled for any consistent minutes this term.

According to TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook, United are ‘ready to cash in’ on the first-team duo, though they’ll wait until the summer to do so.

Maguire, who is United’s club captain, has been the subject of interest from West Ham United. Whereas McTominay is wanted by both Southampton and Newcastle.

With United still fighting it out on four fronts, it makes sense to keep these guys around until the summer, though they don’t really feel like players who are part of the long-term plans here in Manchester.

The situation is a little more complex with Maguire as he remains club captain. I guess the only option is to sell him, as stripping him of the armband would become a big deal amongst the media and within the dressing room, too.

As for McTominay, he’s 27 now and hasn’t really kicked on to that next level. It’s disappointing for him, but it feels like the right time to let him go elsewhere.

Do you think letting these two go makes sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
