Andreas Pereira is set to end his time at Man United, with the Reds agreeing on a fee with Flamengo.
Everyone who has closely followed Manchester United over the last few years will understand how badly business has been done.
Far too many times, mistakes have been made in regards to handing big-money contracts to players on the fringes of things. On top of that, those guys, quite frankly didn’t earn those wages as they were largely underperforming.
One player who fits that bill is Andreas Pereira. The Brazilian was once highly thought of at Old Trafford. Though it quickly became clear he probably wasn’t going to be good enough to start regularly in a title-winning side.
Pereira has been spending this term on loan back in his homeland of Brazil, playing for Flamengo. By all accounts, the midfielder is playing excellently for his boyhood side. So-much-so that they’re pushing to sign Pereira permanently.
According to Universo Online (in Portuguese), a transfer fee has been agreed between United and Flamengo. Apparently, the deal is worth around £12m, with the out-of-favour 26-year-old set to leave United on a permanent deal.
The Brazil transfer window actually doesn’t shut until the end of March, though they have a mid-season window that directly aligns with the European one – so a move in either could well happen.
For Pereira, this just feels like the right move at the right time. He simply needs to be playing football on a regular basis and a move back to Brazil will allow him to play in a relatively pressure-free environment – in comparison to how much you’re constantly put under the spotlight at Old Trafford anyway…
This is a fair transfer fee, while United would be getting some much-needed wages off the books in the process. Honestly, the sooner this one happens, the better it’ll be for all involved.
