A Lyon photographer found five minutes of fame among West Ham fans with Lucas Paqueta updates as the Brazilian star arrives for his medical.
West Ham are on the verge of sealing one of the club’s most exciting transfers for years after a rollercoaster few days.
According to the likes of L’Equipe and Sky Sports, the Hammers have agreed a club record £50m plus deal to sign Brazil international Paqueta from Lyon.
Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano confirmed West Ham were making urgent arrangements to get Paqueta to London for his medical this weekend to get the deal done and dusted.
West Ham have a track record of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory when it comes to transfers.
So Hammers fans are understandably trying to contain their excitement until they see Paqueta holding up a West Ham shirt – particularly after Liverpool launched an 11th hour hunt for a top class midfielder.
However, it does indeed seem that West Ham are fast closing on a new club record move for the 25-year-old.
Some Hammers supporters had started to worry when there was a lack of news regarding Paqueta coming to London for his medical on Saturday.
But a Lyon photographer found fame among West Ham fans with her Paqueta updates as the Brazilian star arrives for his medical.
Lyon fan and amateur photographer Peggy Deleruelle, who takes pictures for various club blogs and fan sites, posted a picture of her saying goodbye to Paqueta with the words: “Departure for London,” alongside sad and crying emojis.
Deleruelle then provided further updates and confirmation Paqueta was on his way over to England for his medical much to the delight of eagle-eyed Hammers and the despair of Lyon fans.
She was inundated with questions, comments and direct messages from both West Ham and Lyon supporters.
Many Lyon fans were urging Deleruelle to somehow persuade him not to join West Ham.
And Hammers fans – some of whom mistakenly thought Deleruelle was Paqueta’s mum, mother-in-law and even wife – thanked her for the updates.
Even Deleruelle herself found it funny, confirming she was not Paqueta’s mum but a Lyon photographer and fan and commenting that “Twitter is formidable” having been bombarded with questions, thanks and praise ahead of West Ham’s record transfer.
The modern world of football transfers ladies and gentleman.
When Paqueta is ripping it up in the claret and blue we’ll never forget Peggy Deleruelle.
