Arsenal confirmed on Wednesday that Charles Sagoe Jr has signed a professional contract with the club, capping off a strong individual season from the youngster.
“It’s an amazing feeling to sign my first professional contract with Arsenal Football Club,” Sagoe Jr said.
“I see the project that Mikel Arteta and Per Mertesacker are doing, how they’re developing young players and I want to be a part of it.”
Sagoe Jr was one of the stars of the Arsenal u18 team last season, scoring 11 goals in all competitions for the academy and assisting a further four.
The 17-year-old had a particular penchant for late goals, scoring six of his 11 goals in the last 20 minutes of games.
That included a few big moments, like his 85th-minute equaliser vs Fulham, 92nd-minute winner vs Newport County, or his 94th-minute winner vs Aston Villa.
Sagoe Jr will now step up to the u21s and try to make a similar impact. He’s already provided an assist in the opening game of pre-season against Woking.
Sagoe Jr joins Taylor Foran and Mauro Bandeira in having his new deal officially confirmed.
Henry Jeffcott, James Sweet, and Billy Vigar are all set to follow, which will be the last of Arsenal’s outstanding professional contract offers.
