Barcelona could swap Memphis Depay and Clement Lenglet with Tottenham Hotspur for Sergio Reguilon

According to the Spanish publication Sport (h/t The Sun), Barcelona could facilitate an exchange deal that includes Memphis Depay and Clement Lenglet for Sergio Reguilon with Tottenham Hotspur. The Spanish side is looking for someone who can provide backup to Jordi Alba and replace him in the future.

Reguilon is being monitored by Barca alongside Alejandro Grimaldo at the moment as they look to meet their needs down the left flank. Jose Gaya was also in the mix, but he seems set to sign a new contract with Valencia. The Tottenham star is one of the top targets for Xavi Hernandez’s side as they have been searching the market for a left-back since last summer.

The Blaugrana side could try to tempt Spurs with a swap deal involving Depay and Lenglet. Both of them were previously targeted by the English club, and the former could be looking to use the past interest to finalise a move for Reguilon in the future.

We’ll pass!

Reguilon is one of the most improved players under Antonio Conte so far, which has been the case recently as well. He was out with Covid-19 for quite a while, which had made his recovery a bit slow as he took some time to get back into full fitness.

Some of the effects were visible after his return, but the Spaniard has overcome those issues and seems to be getting back to his best with each matchday. There is no reason to see why we would entertain any offers for the left-wingback even though we can get two solid options in return.

While Depay and Lenglet can be useful for us, we should not deplete our quality in other areas for that purpose. Not to mention, it is good to have a strong pairing in certain positions, with Ryan Sessegnon and Reguilon fighting for the starting spot with each other.

The Tottenham left wing-back duo has done well recently, and their presence would increase healthy competition between the two. That would only help us in the end, so we should firmly reject any approaches from the Catalans that comes our way if that is the case at all. After all, Reguilon is a former player of their bitter rivals, and it is doubtful if they would go down this route or not.

Moreover, with Sessegnon’s fitness issues, we certainly do not want to lose one of our reliable options like Reguilon elsewhere. We would be wise to rather try and rekindle our interests in Depay and Lenglet in a separate deal, but that would ultimately depend upon the Spurs boss himself. As for the former Real Madrid man, we should keep hold of him at all costs, especially when we are trying to build a strong project to challenge for titles.
