Tottenham Hotspur want Wolves defender Max Kilman in the summer

Tottenham Hotspur eye Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back Max Kilman as a summer transfer target, as per journalist Ben Jacobs on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel (h/t Football.London).

The 25-year-old defender has made a rapid rise in English football ever since joining Wolves in the summer of 2018 from Maidenhead. The Englishman is now supposedly on Tottenham’s radar to bolster their backline.

Our defensive rearguard currently has Eric Dier and Cristian Romero as the only natural centre-backs that are arguably worthy of playing every week. Ben Davies has been good, but he is a left-back by trade.

Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez have errors in their game and often look fragile on the field in Tottenham colours. There is a reason why a top coach like manager Antonio Conte isn’t trusting them to play regularly.

What should Tottenham do here?

Joe Rodon, meanwhile, will have to work very hard if he wants to make a name here after being loaned out to Stade Rennais in the summer. All in all, our backline demands world-class additions, and it needs them now.

Not the summer. Some would say Kilman isn’t that player, given his rather low-profile presence in the Premier League. He quietly gets the job done at Wolves.

But we need a world-class leader to man the backline week in, week out. Spurs fans will be happier seeing their team being linked with the likes of Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij.

Josko Gvardiol (20) and Alessandro Bastoni (23) of RB Leipzig and Inter Milan respectively are two fairly young defenders on the path to becoming one of the best defenders in football.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Kilman could be a wise acquisition, but if it is made with the intention of keeping him as a squad player initially. He knows his way around the Premier League, which is always a bonus, but his contract still has three-and-a-half years left (Transfermarkt).
