Arnaut Danjuma’s first words as Tottenham Hotspur player hint at why he rejected Everton
As per Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur beat Everton to seal a deal for Arnaut Danjuma on loan with an option to buy in the summer.
The 25-year-old Netherlands international was close to moving to Goodison Park. However, he has now revealed that when Spurs approached him, he had no doubt in his mind that he wanted to go to north London.
Speaking his first words as a Spurs player, the former AFC Bournemouth winger said (h/t official club website):
“I’m just really happy to be here. To be honest with you, as soon as Tottenham Hotspur came through, it was a no-brainer. It is a massive club with a brilliant coach, brilliant staff and the facilities are obviously unbelievable. So, for me, I’m very, very excited to be part of the team.”
If he did come close to joining Everton and ended up choosing us instead, then it is clear that he came here because we are a ‘bigger club’ in almost every aspect in recent decades. He seems to be a fan of what the club represents.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and our training facility at Hotspur Way are state-of-the-art buildings with elite facilities. Our coaching staff, headed by manager Antonio Conte, is right there with the best in England.
And of course, we are still playing in the UEFA Champions League and are currently fifth in the league. Everton, meanwhile, are in the relegation zone.
Moreover, it seems that the former Inter Milan and Juventus manager’s presence here has also played a part in Danjuma choosing us over a currently manager-less Everton. He added (h/t Football.London):
“I’m really looking forward to working with him, he’s got so much experience as a manager. For me, as a developing player, it’s only great. It gives me the opportunity to learn and be amongst the greats.”
