Hammers boss David Moyes has dropped a huge hint over his West Ham team selection for the Leeds clash on Sunday.
West Ham all but officially secured Premier League safety with a 1-0 win over Manchester United two weeks ago.
But the Hammers are still very much involved in the battle for survival in a different sense. Because they also play Leeds’ relegation rivals Leicester in their final match of the campaign.
So West Ham will have a big say on who drops.
Leeds were cheering Hammers on in Europe in the hope of a hangover and sweeping changes
That was in the hope of a European hangover for West Ham and sweeping changes against Leeds this weekend.
That would be bad news for Everton because when Moyes made nine changes last weekend they were comfortably beaten 2-0 by Brentford.
There has been much debate over how Moyes and West Ham should approach the final two games after sealing their place in a European final.
‘I have decisions’ David Moyes drops huge hint over his West Ham team selection for Leeds clash
Now the manager looks to have lifted the lid on his plans when Sam Allardyce returns to east London.
Moyes has dropped a huge hint over his West Ham team selection for the Leeds clash.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Moyes has said the game represents an opportunity for some West Ham players to show what they can do. That suggests some squad players will be getting a chance against Leeds.
The Scot admitted he has some big decisions to make for Leeds. And Moyes also says he is not worried about making several changes or receiving criticism for doing so.
‘I am not wary about making changes for Leeds’
“As a manager, you can field whatever side feels right for a particular fixture,” Moyes said in his pre-Leeds presser.
“We had to make a few decisions against Brentford last week. We played the first leg of the semi-final, and it forced me to make a few decisions.
“And quite often when your decision doesn’t go well you get mentions and we had to leave people out to get us to the final. And we did that. We have some decisions to make this week as well.
“I am not wary about making changes for Leeds United. Managers quite often will be criticised for whatever they do. Last week, we had play in a semi-final on Thursday and again on Sunday.
“And unfortunately, we have so many games and the Premier League continues to give us games thick and fast, which is part of being in it. We have got that again, with it being Thursday-Sunday this week so we will have a decision to make.”
One player who almost certainly won’t feature against Leeds is striker Michail Antonio after he limped off again against AZ.
The match will be Declan Rice’s last home game. So the decision Moyes has to make is whether he starts and is withdrawn or rested and comes on as a substitute.
