‘He’s Dracula’ Dawson lifts lid on his unlikely bromance with West Ham star

Hammers favourite Craig Dawson has lifted the lid on his unlikely bromance with West Ham star Declan Rice.

Dawson has established himself as a cult hero at West Ham.

So supporters were saddened when it emerged he asked to be allowed leave the east Londoners for family reasons as he sought a move further north in the summer.

The likes of Wolves, Aston Villa and a number of other clubs have been linked with a move for the dependable 32-year-old, who is said to have been commuting down to West Ham from Manchester.

“Ideally, we wouldn’t (lose Dawson) but it’s probably a much more complicated situation that he has,” Moyes said before the summer window closed (Football.London).

In the end Dawson remained and West Ham are thanking their lucky stars he did.

Because the Hammers have needed him. Dawson has become the club’s first choice centre-back and West Ham are all the better with him in the side.

And while remaining at West Ham may be putting a strain on his personal life, the friendships he has built at the club are certainly helping.

Much has been made of the strong team spirit Moyes has fostered at West Ham since his return in 2020. The manager and players reference it on a regular basis.

Now Dawson has lifted the lid on his unlikely bromance with West Ham star and captain Rice.

The big defender has revealed that he has a close bond with Rice with the pair constantly ribbing each other about everything from what happens in matches to the clothes they wear and things they do off the pitch.

And he couldn’t resist a little dig about what Rice off the pitch recently, presumably ahead of something that will be released around Halloween.

“Dec and I enjoy getting on each other,” Dawson told whufc.com.

“It’s just the usual banter. It’s anything from clothes to little comments to what happens in the game – we have a laugh.

“For example, he did a photoshoot recently and dressed up as Dracula!

“You can’t make the highs too high and the lows too low and we get on each other and it’s a sign of a good group that we can do that and enjoy it as well. We spend a lot of time together, so it’s important to get on.”

Ballon Dawson. What a player. What a guy.
