Harry Kane put on a clinic in what could have been his last match for Tottenham, scoring four goals in just over 40 minutes in a 5-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

If Daniel Levy hadn’t made his mind up before this friendly, Kane’s four-goal outburst will hopefully convince the chairman to snub Bayern Munich one final time.

It’s far too simplistic to think that one dominant Kane display in silo at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a friendly against an inferior side will prevent Levy from selling, right?

Who knows what’s going on in the chairman’s head? I gave up trying to analyze his thought process and decision-making long ago.

What we do know is know how motivated Kane looked this afternoon in front of over 50,000 supporters bellowing his name for large stints of the match.

Spurs’ talisman reacted to all the transfer speculation and mumbo jumbo the only way he knows how: by scoring goals, bucket-loads of them.

There were no signs of apathy, no signs of an uninspired captain. Quite the contrary. Spurs’ captain demonstrated why the club should never sell him, leading by example and scoring at will. His first came before the half from the spot.

After the break, Kane opened the floodgates, scoring three straight goals in less than half an hour before being withdrawn to a raucous standing ovation.

We’ll probably know tomorrow whether Kane is staying or going. Hopefully, Levy was paying close attention to Kane’s body language and how he put his best foot forward like there’s any other way for Spurs’ all-time top goalscorer.

If it was his last match in a Tottenham kit, it was a swan song people wouldn’t soon forget.

Seeing him leave now, however, would be even more devastating. Ignore the fact that Spurs were playing an inferior side at home.

It was how Kane acquitted himself, which should resonate most with the club and its supporters. One of our own, our marksman, unleashed fury on Shakhtar. And while Kane has nothing to prove to anyone, including himself, he certainly put on a show for his adoring fanbase.

Hopefully, he’ll be putting on that show we’ve come to take for granted for the foreseeable future.
