Harry Kane reacts to breaking Jimmy Greaves’ record as Tottenham Hotspur beat Manchester City

Harry Kane is now Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time leading goal-scorer. He broke Jimmy Greaves’ long-standing record tally of 266 goals in our win against Manchester City on Sunday (5 February).

The England international scored his 18th goal of the season in his 29th game across competitions when he slotted the ball past Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson Moraes in the 15th minute.

This was the goal that took him to 267 goals for the club. He has only ever been on our books and while it is a shame that he hasn’t won a title here, he is undoubtedly the greatest player in our history.

At 29, he is our all-time leading goal-scorer and those that see him play regularly can tell he is our chief creator of chances in the final third on most occasions. Spurs congratulated Kane on his record with a small message on the Jumbotron at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

After the game, there was an acknowledgement of his achievement with a small, unofficial ‘ceremony’ where the man of the moment was surrounded by press and teammates. After the game, Kane took to his Twitter account to tweet:

“Absolutely buzzing. What a special feeling – Tottenham’s all time record goalscorer.”

He posted this caption over a video where he was asked how it felt to be the club’s all-time leading goal-scorer, to which the 29-year-old replied:

“Well, that feels good. What a place to do it, what a game to do it.”

He then posted a more detailed message for his fans in his next tweet, which can be seen just below:

It is clear that his record means a lot to him. He is now closer to Alan Shearer’s Premier League record tally of 260 goals (Kane is on 200).

Hopefully, that serves as extra motivation for him to commit the remainder of his best years to Tottenham. But that is something for the future. Right now, it’s time to celebrate a massive win against a world-class opponent.

Kane is right. It could have hardly come at a better time – against the defending Premier League champions, at home, and when we needed a win to be contending in the top-four race.
