Gary Neville absolutely raved about West Ham ace Craig Dawson after our clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge today.

The 31-year-old centre-back was absolutely world-class for the Hammers against the Blues today.

The game all ended in tears of course after Dawson was shown a red card for bringing Romelu Lukaku down inside the box.

Jorginho missed the subsequent penalty but Christian Pulisic won the game for Chelsea with a goal in injury time.

Your Club’s SURPRISE Star This Season

Dawson’s foul on Lukaku wasn’t great, of course it wasn’t. But let’s just admire the all-round performance from the former Watford and West Brom man. He was truly sensational for David Moyes’s side.

Dawson had 42 touches and recorded an 80% completion rate from 25 attempted passes. He made seven clearances and seven blocks (Who Scored).

It was an all-round brilliant performance from Dawson and he undoubtedly would have been handed the man of the match award, had he not given away a penalty and been sent-off.

The 31-year-old will now be suspended at the worst possible time for the Hammers with our other three centre-backs all out injured.

At least he will be available for our Europa League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt…every cloud eh!

It’s such a shame that the game ended like it did for West Ham and Dawson in particular this afternoon.

Neville praised the Hammers defender for his display at Stamford Bridge today, when speaking on Sky Sports today (Sunday April 24th, 3:12pm):

“Brilliant from Dawson today. There was talk before the game of Dawson being their only centre-back, he was the only centre-back they needed. Some really good blocks.”

The fact that Dawson cost us just £4 million including the original loan fee is actually unbelievable.

The 31-year-old has to go down as one of the best value for money signings we have ever made as a club.

As mentioned earlier, it’s just a shame how the game ended for big Daws.

If that hadn’t have happened, Dawson’s display would have gone on to be classed as one of the very best of the season from any West Ham player.
