Kai Havertz has had a mixed start to life with Arsenal so far, with the Gunners remaining unbeaten in their early games and the German international starting every game, but no goals or assists yet.
The former Chelsea man has put in some good performances, particularly in the Community Shield win over Manchester City, but he’s under pressure with Fabio Vieira and Leandro Trossard in good form.
Former Arsenal defender Lauren thinks it’s only a matter of time until Havertz shows his value with the club.
“Kai Havertz is a top player, and top players at some point always perform, so I have no doubts about him,” Lauren said.
“He’s a great player but sometimes new signings just need some time to settle and adapt to the new system. Some players take more time than others.”
“But Havertz has played for Germany, Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea at the highest level,” Lauren continued.
“This is not by chance. So he will go on to perform well for Arsenal and be a successful signing, I have no doubts about this. He’ll go on to be a key player for the club.
“There’s many games this season, Arsenal are playing in four competitions, so there’s going to be plenty of opportunities for his quality to shine. He’s one of the most talented players Arsenal have in their squad and we’ll see that soon.”
Havertz perhaps has a little more to overcome to win over everyone at Arsenal.
For example, whilst Declan Rice was a beloved club captain for a side winning their first silverware in years, Havertz was part of an underperforming Chelsea side throwing money down the drain.
Add in the strong rivalry between Arsenal and Chelsea, and all of that was inevitably going to lead to early doubts from Arsenal fans and a vocal eagerness from Chelsea to see the midfielder failing.
If and when Havertz can get past that, there’s no reason he can’t show the quality Lauren is certain he has. With his impressive assist against France over the international break, he’ll hope he’s back on the right track now.
