Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham Hotspur are not interested in free agent Jesse Lingard
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has clearly denied any Tottenham Hotspur interest in free agent Jesse Lingard.
The English playmaker was released from Manchester United last month and is on the lookout for a new club. For him to remain in the free market deep into July would be a cause for concern.
Or, the 29-year-old star is just being careful about choosing his next club. After all, he was cast aside by both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick last season despite a great loan spell at West Ham United before that.
Whatever his next destination may be, Lingard is not on the radar of Spurs. That is according to Romano, who says the Lilywhites will not open talks for Lingard as he isn’t on their transfer list this summer.
It only makes sense. Spurs could have used a player like Lingard in cup games and even for rotation in league outings, especially with the five-substitution rule into effect from next season.
But a spot in the starting XI would have arguably remained out of question. Lingard can play as a winger as well as a central attacking midfielder.
Antonio Conte doesn’t have a dearth of options on the flanks and neither does he, at least for now, play with a traditional number 10 in his formation.
In that regard, it would have made no sense for Lingard to swap the benches at Old Trafford for the ones at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs have already made six signings this summer.

Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Djed Spence, and Clement Lenglet have all arrived at Spurs this season. If Spurs make a seventh addition, don’t count on it to be Lingard – if Romano’s words are anything to go by.
