Erik ten Hag believes Amad’s future lies with Man United.

Manchester United have often used the loan system to their advantage over the years. It’s all about sending players to the right situation in order to aid their development.

Not every short-term move is a roaring success. In fact, most tend to offer very little to the player. However, United have done well in that regard this term. Particularly with young Amad.

The Ivorian spent some time at Rangers last season, without much success. This term, he remained this side of the border with Sunderland. Although it took a little time for the winger to settle in, he’s been superb for the last six months or so.

Goals, assists, a general goal threat and confidence. Amad has been one of the most important players in a Sunderland side who have forced their way into the Championship play-offs. Amad’s task is not done. He’d love to help the Black Cats back to the Premier League.

The question about where Amad’s future lies is already being asked.

During his pre-match press conference ahead of the Wolves game, Ten Hag has confirmed that he believes the 20-year-old’s future lies at Man United following the successful loan.

When asked whether he sees Amad’s future at Old Trafford, the gaffer told the media:

“Yes, of course,” Ten Hag responded, per ManUtd.com.

“We loan such players to let them develop and make progress. To bring them back… that is the aim of a loan.

“We are really strong on them on the matter of the way we mentor them, and so we follow them and we have communication through all the season, especially Darren Fletcher. “He invests a lot in such processes and the aim is to bring them back as a better player and with better experience.”

Without wanting to heap pressure on Amad, this was a young teenager who cost the better part of £40m to bring in. United, understandably, will be expecting some return on that investment.

Amad struggled initially, looking somewhat underconfident during limited chances at United. The inconsistency certainly wouldn’t have helped, though this loan spell has shown us all that he does have the capabilities.

This coming pre-season is going to be massive for the young man. He has to shine on tour, show Ten Hag what he’s all about and look to force his way into the first-team this season.

You look at United’s wingers and they’ve hardly pulled up trees this term. There’s certainly an opportunity there for Amad to grab if he wants it badly enough.
