Eric Dier reveals what has “surprised” him about Richarlison since Tottenham Hotspur transfer this summer
Eric Dier and Richarlison are two very important members of the Tottenham Hotspur squad for manager Antonio Conte. The duo started in their two most recent games – against Fulham in the Premier League and Marseille in the UEFA Champions League.
The start against the Cottagers was the Brazil international’s first for his new club in competitive games since his transfer from Everton this summer. He registered an assist as Spurs ran out 2-1 winners.
Richarlison then followed up that performance with two goals against Les Phoceens in the opening UCL group game this season. Spurs won 2-0, and the former Watford man scored both his goals via headers.
“They were great headers as well. He’s very strong in the air, and that’s maybe a part of his game that’s surprised me a little since he arrived. He’s such a threat in the air and physically so strong.”
His form in recent games has ensured that Brazil manager Tite has picked him in his final squad before the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He is expected to be in the squad for their friendlies against Ghana and Tunisia later this month, with both games taking place in France.
Richarlison’s versatility, whereby he can play anywhere across the frontline, is a boon for any manager. At 25, he is in the prime years of his career and can get better with each passing year.
Harry Kane’s build and movement has made the England international a threat in the box. If Richarlison can offer the same, then it would always be an added bonus to have in the 18-yard area.
