Edinson Cavani looks to be on his way to Spain this summer.
Any good overhaul starts with several players leaving. Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Phil Jones all find themselves out of contract. It’ll be nice to clear those wages off the books.
Another man whose current terms are winding down is Edinson Cavani. We’ve barely seen the Uruguay international this term, which is disappointing given how instrumental he was under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
I’ve personally been gutted with Cavani’s attitude. It feels like he’s done all he can to get himself fit for country, while not really pushing himself that hard to play for club.
Now, Cavani’s next move could have already been decided. It’s the usually reliable Jonathan Shrager with the scoop.
Apparently, the United star is probably heading to La Liga on a two-year contract with an unnamed club, though that is yet to be finalised.
If Cavani doesn’t want to be here, it makes complete sense to move him on and replace him with a player who wants to wear the United badge with pride.
I’d much rather have a thinned out squad bulked up with youth prospects who are putting the graft in, instead of overpaid prima donnas who are here just for the big payday. It’s sad that Cavani now falls into the latter category.
Erik ten Hag has to be ruthless. The clear out has already started. No doubt we’ll see several more names moving on before the work is done – and it’s refreshing to see. I just hope some players are sold, too. Though that may be harder given the ridiculous wages that some of these lads have been awarded despite very little returns in the way of production.
