Does Tottenham Need to Sign Filip Kostić With Ivan Perisic Signing Confirmed?

With Ivan Perisic on route to north London to complete a fitness test, does Tottenham need to continue their pursuit of Filip Kostić?

In short, absolutely. Yes. Unequivocally.

Perisic can man the left wingback role with aplomb, though he’s more accustomed to playing in a more advanced, attacking position.

If Spurs can land Kostic, valued at €20 million on, it would allow Antonio Conte to employ Perisic in a more advanced role while having Ryan Sessegnon and Kostic battle for first-choice wingback privileges.

CIES has Kostic valued at even less, only £8 million. Regardless of the fee, Kostic would round out and fulfil Tottenham’s left wingback requirements without having to shell out a ton of cash.

The 29 year-old won the  Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt and has a lot to offer and, like Perisic, can is comfortable in a more advanced role.

Sergio Reguilon’s future at Spurs is uncertain, but the thought around the club is the Spaniard will most likely leave for pastures anew. Conte preferred Sessegnon to Reguilon during the run-in, though the former was unavailable for the last month due to injury.

Perisic could rotate between wingback and attacking left or right midfielder as the situation requires.

The wily Croatian, with his wealth of experience and winning pedigree, is by no means a shoo-in to land a starting role at Spurs, highlighting the incredible attacking talent the club possesses.

If Conte prefers Perisic in a more advanced role, the Croatian would be thrown in among some elite company, namely Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski, both of whom are locked in as coveted members of the first 11.

Conte, with four competitions to consider, will be forced to rotate often next season, elevating the importance of squad depth.

Landing Kostic for between £8 and £15 million would be an astute bit of business, providing versatility, depth and three, maybe four, viable left wingback options. It’s a position Spurs were desperately short on for the entire season, even more so during the last month or so, reinforcing the need to bulk up.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Spurs reached out to the German side to inquire about Kostic a few days ago, but the negotiations haven’t progressed since.

Let’s hope that changes in the coming days, as the Serbian would make an excellent addition to Conte’s side.
