David Moyes might have just hinted that he plans to make a truly huge signing for West Ham United this summer.

West Ham manager David Moyes will be bracing himself for the summer exit of Hammers skipper Declan Rice.

Arsenal are thought to be leading the race to sign the 41-capped England international, and he is apparently keen to move to the Emirates.

The West Ham fans got a glimpse of what life without Rice will be like on Wednesday night, with Flynn Downes slotting into midfield because of the 24-year-old club captain’s absence.

I really like Downes and believe that the midfielder will go on to be a big success with the Hammers. However, it’s clear that he’s not good enough to be a like-for-like replacement for Dec, not yet at least.

And Moyes alluded to exactly that during his pre-match press conference this afternoon…

David Moyes hints at big summer signing

The Scot spoke to reporters this afternoon and responded when asked about Flynn Downes, as quoted by Football.London:

“Flynn is doing a good job, but I wouldn’t want to put them in the same category. Is he a complete replacement, I’m not sure.”

Now, whilst Moyes’s man-management skills are questionable here, I do think that his comments are encouraging.

I’m taking them to mean that Moyes has a big summer signing lined up to replace Rice, if the 24-year-old does indeed leave West Ham.

I would love the Hammers to go big and sign a couple of players like Khephren Thuram and Ibrahim Sangare. It will take singings like that for us to sufficiently replace Dec.

And Moyes’s comments today seem to hint that he has something very exciting planned.
