The confirmed MUFC XI for the mid-season friendly vs Spanish side Cadiz is now in…
In amongst all the World Cup madness, the fact that Manchester United play their first of two friendlies tonight has become somewhat lost.
Erik ten Hag named a youthful squad for this mini mid-season tour over in Spain, with several young stars hoping to get the opportunity to impress the boss.
First and foremost, priority will be given to the senior players who haven’t played much football, in order to build up their fitness ahead of the resumption of Premier League football later this month.
Anyway, the team news is now in for tonight’s game – and having seen the sheet, I’m looking forward to seeing how these guys get on. So let’s get right into it.
Check out the confirmed MUFC XI vs Cadiz in full here:
Martin Dubravka starts in between the sticks here, with the Newcastle United loanee given the chance to prove his worth to the boss.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka gets a rare start in the right-back position, with Brandon Williams involved over on the left-hand side of defence. Victor Lindelof plays at the heart of the back four, alongside young Teden Mengi.
Scott McTominay is wearing the captain’s armband here, presumably starting alongside Zidane Iqbal in that deeper midfield role. Donny van de Beek will be operating from that number ten slot.
Anthony Martial probably needs the minutes more than anyone, so it makes sense to see the Frenchman leading the line. To his right and left respectively is Anthony Elanga and Alejandro Garnacho.
When you look at the bench, it’s littered with players from the FA Youth Cup winning squad. No doubt these are all chomping at the bit to get on the field, if only for a few minutes, to show everyone what they can do.
