Ruben Amorim’s words on Pedro Porro will not fill Tottenham with confidence

Speaking in a press conference as quoted by Mundo Deportivo (translated into English), Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim has claimed that he does not see Tottenham Hotspur target Pedro Porro leaving in January.

Tottenham have been very keen on signing Pedro Porro this winter transfer window. He has emerged as the priority for Antonio Conte to reinforce the right-back position which has been an area of concern.

The talented Spanish international is not only on Tottenham’s radar with Chelsea also wanting to sign the player. The Liga NOS club however have been adamant that they will sell the player only if his release clause is triggered.

Porro is a talented youngster who has shown his quality for the Primera club for quite some time now. The former Manchester City youth player is now linked with a return to the Premier League.

Porro will be a great acquisition for Tottenham. He is great going forward and also adept defensively. He will be an upgrade on the existing options that we have in the right-back role in both facets of the game.

Speaking about the player’s situation, Amorim has not offered any hope to either Tottenham or Chelsea with his comments.

“I can’t guarantee anything. It doesn’t seem to me that he will leave. To leave at this moment, he has to leave due to the clause. That is the knowledge I have”

The Portuguese club have been pretty adamant in their stance about Porro and it looks like they have no inclination to budge as things stand. This means that Tottenham need to reconsider their offer for Porro.

The Lilywhites have been trying to agree to a player-plus-cash deal for Porro which Sporting CP turned down. The only way for Tottenham to get their man seems to be by paying the release clause.
