Bruno Fernandes has put pen to paper on a new Man United contract.

Manchester United Football Club return this weekend, after over two weeks without a fixture.

Before the international break, our Red Devils were playing pretty poorly. We’ve struggled in the league, then backed it up with some dismal displays against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Some good news is necessary, then, ahead of getting back into the thick of it. Enter, Bruno Fernandes. There were whispers suggesting our Portuguese Magnifico would sign a new deal earlier in the week.

Now, those dreams have turned into a reality. Earlier today, United confirmed that he’d signed a new contract until 2026 with the option for a further year, with Bruno Fernandes all-smiles as he puts pen on paper.

Fernandes, who has 49 goals and 39 assists since joining the Red Devils, has undoubtedly been our best player over the last couple of years. It’s only fair, then, that’s his pay reflects that.

My initial thoughts on this is that its great news to tie Bruno down in the long-term. This now ensures that if United want him here, the Portugal international will remain at Old Trafford for the rest of his peak years as a footballer.

I know that some portions of the fanbase are suggesting that United perhaps should’ve waited to see what happens with the new manager. I don’t buy into that mantra because every month Bruno isn’t signed and we aren’t winning things, the more he considers his future at the club.

Now, United no longer have that worry. Plus, I suspect pretty much every manager in the world would like to work with a player of Bruno’s calibre. He’s one of the best in the world at what he does. And he’s ours for the next five years.

Congrats on the new deal, Bruno!
