Brazilian side Botafogo have made an approach to sign Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri on loan with an option to buy for a fixed fee, Globo Esporte report.
The Uruguayan joined the Red Devils from Penarol back in the summer of 2020 but only made his debut this week. He came on in the final five minutes against Charlton Athletic.
Pellistri made an immediate impact with an assist for Marcus Rashford, but there is still speculation that he could head for the exit door during the current transfer window.
Globo now report that Botafogo made a formal offer for the 21-year-old on Tuesday and they are now awaiting response from the Red Devils as well as the Uruguayan.
As part of the deal, the Brazilian club want United to cover 50 per cent of his salary during the loan spell. They consider the right winger as a ‘great market opportunity’.
United should keep Facundo Pellistri until the summer
Pellistri has made a big impression with Uruguay since his debut last year. He was part of their World Cup squad in Qatar and started in two of their three group stage games.
He has yet to establish himself at United, but manager Erik ten Hag recently heaped praise on him after his lively debut. The Dutchman said that he has a good future ahead of him.
In our opinion, Pellistri should not be allowed to leave this month. He could be a quality deputy to Antony on the right wing. Anthony Elanga is probably the one that needs to be loaned out.
United are currently the only Premier League club alive in four competitions. They have a hectic schedule this month itself with another three league games and three Cup outings.
They need as much depth as possible to avoid possible injuries. With Jadon Sancho training individually, Pellistri should be offered more playing time to prove himself at United.
The Uruguayan, who was described as ‘spectacular‘ by compatriot Ronald Araujo in September, will be hoping for more cameo displays on the back of his goal contribution this week.
