Board confidant Sean Whetstone has reacted to reports that Serie A attacker Divock Origi is about to sign for West Ham.

West Ham fans have been deeply concerned by news coming out of the club over the weekend.

A board confidant claims West Ham are seriously struggling to get any other deals remotely close despite the new Premier League season being just three weeks away.

Realistically West Ham need two midfielders to replace Declan Rice, a new left-back, a centre-back and a forward with Aaron Cresswell, Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca all being tipped to leave.

But a new striker is said to be bottom of the priority list as the lid was lifted on the alleged West Ham transfer plan yesterday.

So many Hammers fans were surprised to see reports this morning that AC Milan striker Divock Origi was on the verge of joining the club.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (print edition July 24th, page 8), West Ham are close to signing ex Liverpool forward Origi for as little as €8 million (£6.9 million) in the summer transfer window.

Now board confidant Sean Whetstone has reacted to reports that Serie A attacker Origi is about to sign for West Ham.

And the man who has close contacts with the likes of Karren Brady and majority stakeholder David Sullivan has emphatically denied the Origi claims.

Whetstone simply used a Family Guy image to respond to the report on Twitter, saying: “No chance.”

Origi denial not necessarily a bad thing for Hammers

Origi, at 28 years of age, is hardly the most inspiring or targets having barely played in his time at Liverpool and flopping at Milan.

West Ham fans are hoping to see younger players targeted following the arrival of ‘pearl diver’ Tim Steidten.

So perhaps it is a positive that the Hammers are not close to signing the Belgian, as has been reported.

One player who is more in line with the profile supporters want to see joining the club is Carlos Borges.

And he is close to officially signing for West Ham from Manchester City according to an update today from Fabrizio Romano.
