Earlier in the summer, reports suggested Eddie Nketiah could be on the verge of making the switch to Ghana for his senior international career.

At the time, a couple of other young players were in the process of making that switch, including Tariq Lamptey of Brighton. Yet no official announcement of Nketiah’s switch was forthcoming.

GHANAsoccernet now report that Nketiah is still weighing up his options on which country to represent internationally.

Though the Ghana FA have held talks with Nketiah and his family, the English FA are also in talks with the Arsenal striker. Nketiah obviously has a strong connection to the England teams through the u21s, as their record goalscorer.

For the time being, Nketiah is yet to play for either Ghana or England at senior level. But perhaps his recent form for Arsenal will see him starting to get call-ups, forcing him into a decision.

Nketiah scored six goals in pre-season with Arsenal, and came on for a positive cameo against Crystal Palace in the first game of the Premier League season on Friday.

The striker has strong competition in the form of summer signing Gabriel Jesus, but it finally feels as though he has a genuine shot at breaking into the team this season.

Perhaps that could see him into Gareth Southgate’s thoughts ahead of the World Cup, but we’re running low on time for that to happen.

It certainly feels like Nketiah’s best shot at this year’s tournament is with Ghana, but perhaps he’d prefer to take the long-term approach to stay with England.

It’s not an easy choice either way, so it’s understandable that the striker isn’t rushing into it.
