French outlet Ouest France have named Folarin Balogun as one of their revelations of the Ligue 1 campaign so far.
They call the Arsenal loanee a centrepiece of the current Stade de Reims side, and suggest he’s been “walking on water” in his early appearances.
Balogun has also set his goals for the season, giving himself goal and assist targets as well as a personal objective.
“To get 10 goals, five assists, and to learn French,” Balogun responded on his season targets. “So hopefully I can do this before I leave. If I reach it, I will change them again, but they’re my goals.”
The early fixtures have certainly put Balogun in a good position to hit 15 goal contributions. The striker already has six in his first six games, having scored five and provided one assist. He’s also won two penalties, with another 30-40 matches to go.
But strikers always face more difficult periods in the course of a season, so he’s unlikely to keep that rate up for the entire campaign.
That’s one of the key benefits of a loan move, that you have the chance to face and learn to deal with adversity without negatively affecting your parent club.
So far, Balogun has had plenty more highs than lows. He’ll hope to keep his run going for as long as possible, starting with an away trip to Toulouse on Sunday afternoon.
