The news initially broke on the other side of the Atlantic, with Taylor Twellman reporting that Arsenal had put in a strong bid for New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner.

MLS writer Tom Bogert added that the offer was in the region of the £5-7.5m Manchester City paid for Zack Steffen.

Back in England, James Olley of ESPN confirmed that Arsenal had made an offer to Turner, with Bernd Leno pushing for a move away this month.

Mike McGrath of The Telegraph reports that Turner is a target for Arsenal and expected to leave New England Revolution this month.

The Athletic claim Arsenal are working on a deal for the goalkeeper, though they suggest a formal bid hasn’t yet been made. Talks are “headed in that direction” though, with the Gunners hoping to sign the goalkeeper before the end of the window.

Charles Watts of Goal reports that Arsenal are in talks to sign the goalkeeper, looking to push a deal through. Again, Watts suggests that the club are yet to submit an official bid.

Fabrizio Romano adds that personal terms have already been discussed and aren’t an issue. Arsenal are in direct contact with New England Revolution to come to an agreement.

Turner was named the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2021, and he’s made 13 appearances for the U.S. Men’s National Team over the last year as well, winning the Concacaf Gold Cup Golden Glove Award last summer.

The MLS are on their winter break at the moment, as their league is played on a calendar-year format.
