Antony is set to be announced as man United’s fifth signing of the summer today.
Manchester United Football Club have been chasing a winger all summer. Erik ten Hag’s number one desire has always been Antony.
The pair worked together with great success over at Ajax, with Ten Hag and Antony looking to reunite at Old Trafford.
This saga has gone back and forth. One week, it looked like a deal was extremely possible. The next, it felt like an Antony move was dead in the water. Largely due to Ajax’s asking price.
Credit where it’s due, United have always remained confident. I guess eventually, the club always knew they were willing to meet Ajax’s demands eventually.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided us the good news. Antony has completed his medical, with his unveiling set to take place today. The Brazilian will become United’s fifth signing of the summer as the Ten Hag overhaul continues.
Antony, aged 22 has more than done his bit to help force this move through. For that, the Brazilian deserves credit. He refused to train, partake in matches and even submitted a formal transfer request. That shows his desire and desperation to link up with Ten Hag once again.
Although the transfer fee looks like it’ll end up costing United more than they initially wanted to pay, this was an absolute necessity.
The club are absolutely desperate for at least one new winger. Maybe even two. Antony is someone who can come straight into the side as he’s familiar with the Ten Hag style of play. Who knows, we may even see him on Thursday against Leicester City if the deal is done in time…
